What Happened to the Lions?

By Cassi Kirkland

The issue of conservation is easy to ignore in a city where the most common animal sighting is a squirrel by the Diag, but it’s a major issue in other parts of the world. Many countries in Africa are battling to keep some of the most majestic animals from going extinct, because they are slowly losing their homes.

Although not listed as an official endangered species in the US, the Africa lion population is decreasing. They face habitat loss as a result of an expanding human population, and they are targeted by many hunters for their prized fur.

Kevin Richardson is trying to raise awareness for lions and their rapidly decreasing population numbers, and he was featured on GoPro’s HERO3+ Adventure Series this week. In a 15 minute interview, the crew gets amazing video of Kevin interacting with fully grown lions, while he talks about his passion for conservation. Saving precious animals is becoming more and more important as global warming adds to habitat destruction and changes the homes of many of the creatures that inhabit our earth.
