Scientista Faculty Mentorship Program

How It Works
The Department Affairs Chair Tehreem Sajjad matches mentees with mentors as per the needs and interests they indicate on the forms intended for Scientista members to request a member and for University of Michigan faculty to express interest in mentoring. We will launch the Scientista Faculty Mentorship Program with an introductory meeting for all prospective mentor volunteers and interested participants early in the Fall term, or prospective mentor volunteers may personally initiate an introductory meeting through the Department Affairs Chair by sending a letter of introduction from yourself to the interested mentee. This exchange may be followed up by an e-mail or phone call, which can be used to schedule the first face-to-face meeting.

                                                    What Roles Do Mentors Play?
Expectations of Mentors
  • Maintain ongoing communication with your mentee including at least three exchanges per term. Meet in person with your mentee at least once during the term.
  • Respect the confidentiality of all discussions with your mentee unless you and your mentee address and establish the level of disclosure of your discussions.
  • Serve as an advocate for your mentee by helping him or her access resources to achieve academic and pre-professional success.
  • Evaluate your relationship with your mentee at least once per term during the period of mentorship renewal and contact the Department Affairs Chair for advice or desired changes.
