10/12/2014 0 Comments Fall and Winter Fashion the Lab By: Martina Efeyini Many of us Scientistas will eventually find ourselves in a lab at some point in our careers. We all know, when you are in a lab, you have to follow the rules of laboratory safety. If you are unsure about the safety code, check out the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) website or your Lab Safety Office to learn more. Here are some tips that are universal for any Scientista in the lab: 1. Hair When you are in a lab, your hair should be up and away from your face. There are so many hairstyles out there for every Scientista. If you are into buns, try a ballet bun or messy bun. If you have curly hair, you can rock a cute curly ponytail and add a headband as an accent. 2. Makeup Just because you are in a lab doesn't mean you can't put makeup on. If you decide to wear makeup, it should be minimal. In a lab the goal of makeup is to look natural. A little bit of mascara, natural-colored lipstick that complements your skin tone and a tinted moisturizer can make you look more polished. This is simple makeup that looks fresh and is perfect for days in the lab when you look exhausted. 3. Tops A shirt or a blouse is a great way to make your outfit stand out and add some of your personal style. Whether you like plaid, paisley or solid colors, tops help complete your lab outfit. Reserve blouses for days when you have important lab meetings or presentations. For daily lab attire try Peter Pan-collar shirts, button-down shirts or sweaters that are a perfect mix of casual chic. 4. Pants My favorite pants to wear in the lab are black pants or dark denim-wash jeans. Black pants are great to wear because they go with everything and make it easy to go from casual to dressy with just the change of a top. Dark-wash denim jeans create a more polished look compared to jeans that are a lighter wash or have fading. 5. Shoes My favorite shoes are loafers or oxfords. I practically live in them all year long. Before deciding on shoes, make sure they are comfortable. Ask yourself: Can I wear them for hours while standing? Are they casual or semi-casual? Semi-casual shoes are great because they can go with many lab outfits. No matter what your style is, there are shoes for every Scientista. What is your favorite shoe style? Remember, even when you are in the lab, you can be comfortable, stylish and professional at the same time. What do you wear to the lab? Comments? Leave them below!
